Polish Police report surge in economic crime asset seizures

In the first half of 2026, the Polish Police reported significant results in combating economic and financial crime. Asset seizures reached approximately 1.9 billion PLN, a 50% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, recovered property for victims totaled over 184 million PLN, representing a growth of more than 50% year-over-year.

Regarding economic offenses, authorities initiated 27,610 preparatory proceedings, detecting 83,522 crimes out of 88,076 identified cases, resulting in a detection rate of 94.58%. Police efforts focused on tax fraud, excise duty evasion, environmental crimes, and intellectual property violations.

Data regarding retail theft shows an 18.6% year-on-year decrease in combined thefts and misdemeanors, totaling 108,000 cases. While misdemeanors fell by 20.9%, criminal thefts saw a smaller decline of 4.9%. Large-scale retail stores continue to account for over 83% of all shoplifting misdemeanors. Experts suggest the decline is most prominent in minor incidents, while criminal thefts targeting more expensive or easily resalable goods remain more persistent.
