Two Lost Tourists Rescued in Bieszczady Forest after Nightlong Search

On the night of 10‑11 July, a 26‑year‑old woman and a 27‑year‑old man from the Masovian region went missing while hiking from Polana toward Daszówka in the Bieszczady mountains. They lost orientation after covering about 15 km and spent the night in the forest, where they reported seeing tracks of a large animal and feared moving.

Police from the Ustrzyki Dolne precinct received a call just before 03:00 UTC and launched a search. Using light and sound signals from a patrol vehicle, officers located the pair about three kilometres from the nearest settlement and guided them to safety. The tourists required no medical assistance. Police reminded hikers to plan routes, charge phones and inform relatives before venturing into mountainous terrain.

The incident underscores the importance of preparation and rapid response by local law‑enforcement in Poland’s remote forest areas.
