Fatal police intervention in Warsaw leaves 37‑year‑old dead

During a domestic disturbance call in Warsaw’s Białołęka district, officers encountered a 37‑year‑old man who was aggressive and had used a chemical irritant against them. While attempting to restrain him, the suspect lost consciousness. Despite immediate medical aid and transport to a hospital, he died several hours later. Two police officers were also injured – one bitten and the other exposed to the irritant – and were taken for medical evaluation. The incident is under investigation by the police internal control unit and the prosecutor’s office.

The event follows an earlier report that the man had reportedly used a pepper‑spray‑type device and fled through a ground‑floor window before being tracked to a nearby garage. The authorities are reviewing the circumstances of the intervention and the use of force applied.
