Polish police urge bike and scooter owners to boost theft protection

Police officers in Gliwice and Kartuzy have highlighted a rise in bicycle and electric‑scooter thefts as the cycling season intensifies. Thieves commonly target vehicles left unattended for a short time in front of shops, bars, stations, residential buildings, balconies, stairwells, garages and basements.

Officials recommend using solid U‑locks or high‑quality chain locks that secure the frame and at least one wheel, attaching the lock to a fixed, sturdy object. They stress the benefit of employing multiple locks, securing storage areas with strong doors, monitoring who enters the building, and keeping purchase receipts, frame numbers and photographs. The police advise that "the simplest rule is: always lock a bike or scooter, even for a brief stop" and to report any theft to authorities immediately.
