Polish poll: majority view Zelensky's return of White Eagle Order as insult

Poland’s president Karol Nawrocki withdrew the Order of the White Eagle from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after Zelensky approved naming a Ukrainian military unit “Heroes of UPA.” Zelensky subsequently sent the order back by courier. A poll commissioned by Virtual Poland and conducted by United Surveys by IBRiS between 26‑28 June 2026 surveyed 1,000 adults (mixed‑mode online and telephone). Overall, 69.3 % said Zelensky’s way of returning the order was an insult to Poland – 44.1 % “definitely” and 25.2 % “rather.” About 22.2 % did not view it as insulting. Among supporters of the governing coalition (KO, Lewica, PSL, Poland 2050) 52 % considered it insulting, while 85 % of opposition voters (PiS, Razem, Confederation) did so. Non‑voters and undecided respondents rated the gesture as insulting at 66 %.
