Polish Post Museum in Gdańsk opens new permanent exhibition

The Polish Post Museum in Gdańsk has opened a new permanent exhibition dedicated to the defenders of the Polish postal facility during the outbreak of World War II. The reopening took place on October 5, marking the 87th anniversary of the execution of the defenders.

The modernized museum is twice as large as the previous installation, expanding from three to eight exhibition rooms. For the first time, the display includes the building's basements, where the defense took place on September 1, 1939. The renovation and modernization process lasted approximately 15 months and was funded by local taxpayers and European Union funds.

The exhibition utilizes modern multimedia and scenographic techniques to recount the 14-hour defense of the building against German forces, the subsequent captures, and the execution of 38 defenders. Notable artifacts on display include personal items donated by the families of the postal workers, such as a wedding ring and a uniform button recovered from a mass grave in 1991.
