Polish post office staff stop senior from transferring 20,000 zł in fraud

On 24 June in Zielona Góra, a 70‑plus‑year‑old man arrived at a Poczta Polska branch requesting to transfer 20,000 zł for a “friend in need.” Branch chief Dorota Jarnut‑Wędzikowska noticed inconsistencies in his behaviour and questions, prompted a verification of the account number, and called police. Officers arrived within minutes and, after a phone call with the supposed friend revealed that the caller was a young fraudster, the senior was persuaded not to proceed with the transfer. The prompt action prevented the loss of the man’s life savings.

The incident highlights ongoing efforts by Polish postal workers to thwart “friend‑or‑grandchild” scams, which have risen in recent months.
