Polish President Karol Nawrocki Oaths Sławomir Patyra as Constitutional Tribunal Judge

On 28 July, President Karol Nawrocki announced he will receive the oath of office from Sławomir Patyra, the judge recently elected by the Sejm to Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal. Nawrocki said Patyra waited for a formal ceremony and avoided taking an informal oath before the parliamentary speaker, describing his conduct as “responsible” and free of the “szopki” that have surrounded other appointments.

Nawrocki added that he will not receive oaths from four other newly‑elected judges, whose appointments are still under review for procedural errors. The decision underscores the president’s role in confirming judges and highlights ongoing tensions over the Tribunal’s composition.
