Polish President Karol Nawrocki Vetoes Two Bills, Criticizes Government

President Karol Nawrocki announced a veto on two pieces of legislation. The first bill would have created a student ombudsman and altered student rights, which he said would increase bureaucracy and turn schools into a "school prosecutor" tracking anonymous reports. The second veto targeted the implementation of the EU FuelEU Maritime regulation, which he argued would add fees, administrative burdens and sanctions, raising transport costs and weakening the competitiveness of Polish and EU ports.

Nawrocki also referred a draft amendment to the excise tax law to the Constitutional Tribunal, questioning its constitutionality and rushed legislative process. In his remarks he condemned the ruling Tusk government for legislative chaos, a budget deficit exceeding 100 billion PLN, and a lack of concrete achievements after 932 days in office, urging a halt to the Green Deal measures.
