Polish President Karol Nawrocki Vetoes Employment Bill as Labour Ministry Launches Job Stability Campaign

President Karol Nawrocki exercised his veto to reject a bill on the status of a close person, a measure that would have affected around two million Polish citizens. The legislation, prepared jointly by the New Left parliamentary club and the Polish People’s Party (PSL), aimed to introduce a modest framework for granting a "nearest‑person" status and facilitating minimal pensions for low‑earning workers. Despite expectations that the president would sign the bill, he declined, citing concerns that were not publicly detailed.

Separately, the Polish Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Policy announced a procurement for an agency to run a nationwide, multi‑channel campaign promoting stable employment contracts. With a budget of 3.7 million złoty, the initiative targets 25‑35‑year‑olds, emphasizing benefits such as guaranteed wages, paid leave, parental rights, better credit access and pension security. The campaign will also inform the public about new powers of the State Labour Inspectorate to convert civil‑law contracts into employment contracts when appropriate.
