Polish President's Family Home Hit by False Emergency Alarm

Police and emergency services responded to a false alarm at the family residence of President Karol Nawrocki in Gdańsk. The alert, initially reported as a fire and then a medical emergency involving a child, proved unfounded; officers found the apartment empty aside from animals. Investigators say the false report was sent using a so‑called “router onion,” a device that layers IP addresses to conceal the sender’s identity, potentially allowing the perpetrators to monitor police actions. The incident prompted an emergency briefing by Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński and a follow‑up meeting led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Gdańsk district prosecutor has opened a criminal investigation, linking this case to a series of similar false alarms targeting other public figures, including media executives and politicians. While some reports suggest the messages may have originated from servers in Scandinavian countries and later from Russia, Polish authorities have not confirmed any foreign involvement. The search for the individual or group responsible is ongoing.
