Polish priest Andrzej Paszyński faces archdiocesan probe after refusing funeral over low donation
In the Starczówek parish in Lower Silesia, Father Andrzej Paszyński reportedly told a grieving family that the offering envelope contained too little money and initially refused to celebrate the funeral mass. Parishioners intervened, demanding the service, and the priest eventually performed the ceremony but without a sermon or any mention of the deceased, which witnesses described as “arrogant”.
The family also alleged that the priest objected to their choice of funeral company, preferring one he recommended. The Archdiocese of Wrocław has opened a canonical investigation, stating the matter will be treated with “due seriousness” and that decisions will follow the outcome of the inquiry.
