Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk blocks NBP board nominations

Prime Minister Donald Tusk refused to provide the required counter‑signature for the President’s nominations to the board of the National Bank of Poland (NBP), including Marta Kightley for vice‑president and Ludwik Kotecki. The Premier’s office returned the President’s letter, effectively halting the appointment process.

The move intensifies a dispute with President Andrzej Nawrocki, whom ministers accuse of exceeding constitutional powers and politicising the central bank after NBP President Adam Glapiński took part in a press conference presenting the “SAFE 0 %” programme. The NBP board is already at the statutory minimum of six members following the March departure of former ABW chief Piotr Pogonowski, and a further vacancy is expected in November when Vice‑President Adam Lipiński’s term ends, threatening the quorum required by law.

Minister Tomasz Siemoniak warned that the conflict creates a “large crisis in the state” and signalled to the President that unchecked obstruction is not acceptable.
