Polish prosecutors indict election officials over miscounted presidential votes

The District Prosecutor's Office in Siedlce has filed an indictment against six members of an election commission in Stoczek, Węgrów County, regarding irregularities during the second round of the presidential elections. According to prosecutor Bartłomiej Świderski, 43 votes intended for candidate Rafał Trzaskowski were incorrectly attributed to candidate Karol Nawrocki.

The investigation into voting irregularities across the Mazowieckie and Lubelskie voivodeships has resulted in charges against 68 individuals so far. The allegations involve the unreliable counting of votes and the improper preparation of voting protocols. Of those charged, 40 individuals have admitted guilt and provided explanations.

While the six commission members face trial in the Węgrów District Court this October, the prosecutor has requested a conditional dismissal of proceedings for three other members who cooperated fully with the investigation. Those facing conviction could face fines, community service, or up to two years in prison.
