Polish public backs tighter short‑term rental rules

A poll conducted on 15 April 2026 found that 58.2 % of Poles think short‑term rentals of apartments – such as those listed on Airbnb – should be more tightly regulated, with support in every age group and the highest approval (60.7 %) among those over 50.

The government’s bill, adopted by the Council of Ministers on 14 July, subjects rentals of up to 30 days to hotel‑service regulations, creates a Central Register of Tourist Accommodation, requires identification numbers for offers, data sharing by platforms, mandatory rules, inspections and penalties. Critics say the draft omits provisions that would let municipalities establish Airbnb‑free zones or let housing co‑operatives decide on rentals in their buildings. The Left party announced plans to submit amendments restoring those powers and will meet the minister of supervision to discuss the changes.
