Polish qualifier Maja Hvalinska reaches Roland Garros final

Polish tennis player Maja Hvalinska, ranked world No. 114, advanced to the Roland Garros final after defeating Russia’s Diana Shnaider, world No. 23, 7‑6(4), 6‑4. The two‑hour‑ten‑minute match made Hvalinska the lowest‑ranked finalist in the tournament’s history, surpassing the previous record set by Florenta Mihai, who was ranked 56th in 1977.

Hvalinska entered the grand‑slam main draw through the qualifying rounds, becoming only the second qualifier ever to reach a major final after Britain’s Emma Raducanu at the 2021 US Open. In the upcoming final on Paris’s clay courts, she will face Russia’s Mir Andreyeva, world No. 8, who defeated Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals.
