D3 motorway closure extended near Poland-Slovakia border

The total closure of the D3 motorway in Slovakia, including the Svrčinovec and Poľana tunnels, has been extended until August 27, 2026, due to ongoing construction work.

This closure significantly impacts travelers moving between Poland and Slovakia via the Zwardoń border crossing, as the D3 motorway serves as the direct continuation of Poland’s S1 expressway. Drivers traveling from the Polish side are being diverted through the Czech Republic.

For vehicles under 7.5 tons, the recommended detour involves exiting onto the old Slovak national road No. 12 through Skalité, Čierne, and Svrčinovec, eventually connecting to national road No. 11 toward Čadca. The Slovak police have urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly follow all posted signage during this period of extended disruption.
