Rail Baltica: Ministry outlines Suwałki hub timeline and funding
The Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has released an official timeline and funding plan regarding the Rail Baltica project and the development of the Suwałki railway hub.
According to Deputy Minister Piotr Malepszak, the 2023 National Railway Program did not include funds for construction on the Suwałki section. To address this, the Ministry is seeking financing through the European Union’s CEF3 instrument for the 2028–2034 period.
The administrative schedule for the Suwałki hub is as follows: - By the end of 2026: The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Białystok is expected to issue an environmental decision. - Q1 2027: Submission of the application for the railway line location decision. - By the end of 2027: Obtaining the construction permit.
Additionally, the reconstruction of the main Suwałki station building is currently underway as part of the Station Investment Program, with completion and opening planned for the second quarter of 2027. Suwałki Mayor Czesław Renkiewicz noted that the specific deadlines and the commitment to pursue EU funds are positive developments for the city.
