Warsaw’s Szpital Południowy scandal draws prosecutors and political ire

Doctor Dawid Kacprzyk, former SOR coordinator at Warsaw’s Szpital Południowy, is alleged to have earned 1.6 million zł in 2025 while working implausibly long hours – 732 hours in 125 days at the hospital and additional shifts at Mazowiecki Szpital Bródnowski, equating to roughly 11‑18 hours per day. Prosecutors in the Warsaw District Office have opened two investigations: one for alleged fraud exceeding half a million zł and another for abuse of authority. The investigations examine his work‑time records, locations and duration of duties, and possible preferential treatment of political figures.

The prosecutor’s office says a witness‑type interview of Kacprzyk is being delayed because it would reveal the authorities’ procedural knowledge; they argue there is insufficient evidence to file charges at this stage. Over 40 witnesses have already been heard, and up to 200 more are expected.

PiS politicians have launched a “shame counter” highlighting a 37‑day delay in Kacprzyk’s interrogation, accusing the current government of covering up the scandal. The case has also prompted a prosecution notice concerning the former director of Szpital Południowy over more than 1 million zł.
