Polish regional hospitals face financial challenges and debt restructuring

Regional hospitals in Poland are facing significant financial pressures, leading to different local government responses. In Sokółka, a county council session saw heated debate regarding the hospital's debt, which has reached approximately 50 million PLN. Councilors raised concerns about the need for debt restructuring and requested access to documentation regarding a tender for the renovation of a Long-term Care Institution (ZOL). The district governor addressed these concerns by criticizing the conduct of certain councilors during their visits to the facility.

In Starachowice, the city council approved a 15 million PLN loan to support the local hospital's liquidity. The hospital requires a total of 25 million PLN to cover obligations related to the development of a Cardiology Center and IT informatization projects. The loan, carrying a 2.5 percent interest rate, is expected to be repaid in a single installment by December 31, 2026, following the receipt of expense reimbursements. Additionally, the city plans to provide a 1.5 million PLN grant for the purchase of a surgical robot used in knee endoprosthesis.
