Polish researchers develop robotic eye surgery and AI genetic diagnostic tools
Researchers in Poland are developing advanced technological solutions to enhance medical precision in ophthalmology and genetics. At the International Center for Eye Research, scientists are working on a robotic system designed for ocular drug delivery and biopsies. This technology aims to assist ophthalmologists with high-precision procedures, such as gene therapies that require delivering medication to specific locations on the retina. The project, which is currently in the preclinical research stage, integrates imaging to track tool positioning within the eye.
In a separate biomedical advancement, a research team led by Professor Edward Szczerbicki from the Gdańsk University of Technology, in collaboration with Professor Haoxi Zhang from Chengdu University of Information Technology in China, has developed the CS-Net platform. This AI-driven system utilizes cognitive computer vision and machine learning to detect structural chromosomal abnormalities. By improving karyotyping—the process of assessing chromosome structure and number—the platform aims to enhance clinical diagnostics and biomedical research through advanced spatial-temporal modeling.
