Polish retailers extend deposit system voucher validity
Retailers in Poland are implementing varying policies regarding the validity of deposit system vouchers for returned beverage packaging. While the Ministry of Climate and Environment has suggested a minimum voucher validity of one month, several supermarket chains are offering more flexible terms to encourage recycling habits.
POLOmarket has extended the validity of its vouchers to three years, a move intended to support the circular economy. Other retailers are also adjusting their timelines: Netto and Stokrotka have extended voucher use to 90 days, Lidl offers 100 days, and Dino and Auchan have committed to providing vouchers with no expiration date.
The deposit system allows customers to return plastic bottles (up to 50 gr), metal cans (50 gr), and reusable glass bottles (1 zł). To claim the deposit, containers must be empty and uncrushed. Most stores larger than 200 square meters are equipped with automated collection machines.
