Polish retailers face consumer product quality concerns over butter packaging and counterfeit coffee

Polish supermarket chain Biedronka has drawn consumer attention over a discrepancy in its butter packaging, with a specific detail on the label reported as uneven or inaccurate. The issue is being highlighted by consumers who question the product’s consistency and labeling standards.

At the same time, experts warn that counterfeit coffee products are increasingly appearing on Polish e‑commerce sites. These fake coffees may contain substitutes such as roasted soy, flour, or extracts that mimic real coffee in appearance and aroma, making detection difficult without laboratory testing. The fraud is driven by high coffee prices, which rose about 39 % in 2024 due to adverse weather in Brazil and Vietnam. Industry representatives stress that genuine brands maintain their blends despite price pressures, while consumers are urged to watch for unusually bright color, rapid water absorption, or a soil‑like smell as possible signs of adulteration.
