Polish rheumatologist Bartosz Fiałek offers 4000 zł/day, draws criticism

Rheumatologist Bartosz Fiałek proposed a contract for a public rheumatology clinic in Sopot that would pay 4,000 zł gross per day on a B2B basis. The offer stipulated a minimum of 21 patients per day, at least seven hours of work, two days per week, resulting in a per‑patient rate of about 190.48 zł. Fiałek argued the rate was not excessive.

The proposal was met with strong criticism. Jakub Kosikowski, spokesperson for the National Medical Chamber, compared the demand to national salary statistics, noting the average gross salary in Poland is 9,813 zł and the median is 7,907 zł, and highlighting that only a small fraction of doctors earn over a million zł per year. PiS MP Janusz Cieszyński reminded that Fiałek holds two diplomas from Collegium Humanum, an institution under investigation for diploma trading. Several other parliamentarians also voiced opposition, questioning the realism of the demanded compensation.
