Polish riders secure SEC spots after chaotic Lonigo speedway showdown
The Speedway European Championship (SEC) Challenge was held in Lonigo, Italy, but deteriorating track conditions forced the organizers to end the meeting early after only four series of races. Judges spent over thirty minutes trying to improve the surface, yet riders continued to struggle with slips, equipment failures and crashes.
Czech rider Jan Kvech topped the classification with 11 points, earning the win. The event also confirmed the qualification of three Polish riders—Piotr Pawlicki, Przemysław Pawlicki and Maciej Janowski—for the 2026 individual European Championship. Danish riders Mikkel Michelsen and Rasmus Jensen also secured places in the SEC lineup.
The final SEC Challenge roster now includes twelve riders: Jan Kvech (CZE), Maciej Janowski (POL), Mikkel Michelsen (DEN), Rasmus Jensen (DEN), Przemysław Pawlicki (POL), Piotr Pawlicki (POL) plus the pre‑qualified six from the previous season and three “wild‑card” entries to be selected by the organizers.
