Polish rock icon Kora dies after five‑year battle with ovarian cancer

Katarzyna Stasińska, known as Kora, the lead vocalist of the Polish rock band Maanam, died on 28 July 2018 at her home in Bliżowie‑Kolonia. She had been fighting ovarian cancer for five years; the disease was first diagnosed after a friend urged her to see a gynaecologist in 2013. Kora underwent surgery, chemotherapy and later targeted therapy (olaparib) but the cancer eventually metastasised, leading to her death.

Her husband, journalist Kamil Sipowicz, posted on Facebook about her final month, describing it as a “hell” that Kora faced with determination. Close friends recounted her resilience and her willingness to explore unconventional remedies alongside conventional treatment. Kora’s passing drew tributes from fans and the Polish music community, reflecting her lasting impact on the nation's rock scene.
