Polish ruling party PiS criticized over hospital scandal and Ukraine stance

The ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) is not benefiting from the ongoing hospital procurement scandal. Recent polls show the party’s support has stalled, while the opposition Civic Platform (KO) suffers the biggest hit and the far‑right Confederation gains ground.

PiS is also facing accusations of political opportunism on foreign policy. After months of vocal support for Ukraine, party figures are now using anti‑Ukrainian rhetoric. Opposition leader Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz described the shift as “a festival of hypocrisy,” warning that such language could fuel aggression toward Ukrainian residents in Poland. He quoted a minister’s claim that “PiS has the face of Mr Braun” and noted that the party once “shouted ‘Glory to Ukraine’ from morning to night.” The criticism highlights concerns that PiS is prioritising short‑term electoral gains over consistent policy.
