Polish Salmon‑in‑Cream Product Recalled after Listeria Contamination

Poland’s Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) issued an urgent public warning on 22 May 2026 after laboratory tests detected the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes in the ready‑to‑eat product “Łosoś w kremie” (salmon in cream) produced by Suempol sp. z o. o. in Bielsk Podlaski. The warning applies to two batch numbers – 80 g (L20261‑22, best‑by 30 May 2026 and 2 June 2026) and 900 g (L20261, best‑by 28 May 2026). Consumers, especially pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and immunocompromised, are advised not to eat the product and to seek medical help if symptoms of listeriosis appear.

The producer responded by convening a HACCP team, halting distribution of the affected stock, and conducting thorough cleaning, disinfection and validation of the production process. Follow‑up environmental tests after sanitisation showed no Listeria. The district veterinary doctor initiated a control procedure, identified recipients of the suspect batches and is overseeing the market withdrawal while increasing the frequency of official sampling.

Health authorities emphasize that Listeria can cause severe illness, including meningitis, sepsis and fetal complications, and urge anyone with the product at home to check batch numbers and discard it immediately.
