Polish SatCom Alliance launches sovereign satellite internet initiative

A consortium of Polish companies, known as the Polish SatCom Alliance, has been established to develop a sovereign European satellite internet system. The alliance includes Exatel, Energa Operator, Creotech Instruments, and Phoenix Systems.

The initiative will initially focus on providing satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services, specifically targeting the energy sector and critical infrastructure. Utilizing low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, the system aims to ensure continuous data transmission and monitoring, particularly in emergency situations where terrestrial networks may fail.

Phoenix Systems, a member of the alliance, contributes its proprietary Phoenix-RTOS, a microkernel-based real-time operating system designed for Edge-IoT devices. The company emphasizes the importance of software sovereignty to ensure cybersecurity and independence from third-party licensing risks or geopolitical constraints in sectors such as defense, smart grids, and New Space.
