Polish Sejm approves bill to create Mazovian University in Płock

The Polish Sejm has voted to approve a bill that will transform the Mazovian Academy in Płock into the Mazovian University in Płock. The legislation passed with 439 votes in favor, following a unanimous recommendation from the Sejm's Committee on Education and Science.

According to the approved amendments, the institution will officially receive its new name on October 15, 2026. The project received support from various parliamentary clubs, with proponents noting that the initiative transcends political divisions to serve the academic community and the regional development of Płock.

Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Maria Mrówczyńska stated that the academy meets the statutory requirements for university status and serves as a vital unit for regional growth, currently educating over 2,000 students. The bill now moves to the Senate and subsequently to the President of Poland for final enactment.
