Polish Sejm probes 2025 budget, road and rail funding

On Thursday the Polish Sejm debated the execution of the 2025 state budget and the National Bank of Poland’s annual report. Law and Justice MP Marcin Grabowski asked the government for details on funds allocated in 2025 to road and railway projects in the Ostrołęka region, noting the absence of Finance Minister Andrzej Domański from the session.

The debate also considered granting the cabinet absolution for the 2025 budget. Critics, including the head of the Supreme Audit Office, highlighted a shortfall in budget revenues, an overspend of roughly 84.5 billion zloty under the Stabilisation Spending Rule, the use of KPO funds for liquidity rather than investment, and a rapid increase in public debt and its servicing costs. Tax revenues fell about 42 billion zloty short of plan, with the biggest gaps in VAT, CIT, PIT and excise duties.
