ZUS implements various pension and benefit updates in Poland
The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) is introducing several changes to social benefits and pension management. Starting January 1, 2027, widow's pension rules will change, allowing eligible individuals to combine their own pension or disability benefit with a family pension. The portion of the second benefit will increase from 15% to 25%, though total payments are subject to a cap of three times the minimum pension.
Additionally, ZUS continues to provide advisory services for retirees and debtors. For ten years, specialized advisors have assisted over 2 million applicants with debt relief, installment plans, and pension simulations. Recent reports highlight that nearly 900,000 people in Poland choose to continue working after reaching the statutory retirement age (60 for women, 65 for men) to increase their future benefits or maintain social connections.
Other notable updates include the 2026 energy allowance (ryczałt energetyczny) of 336.16 PLN per month for specific groups such as combatants and victims of repression. There are also projections for an increase in the nursing allowance (dodatek pielęgnacyjny) by March 2027. For teachers, compensatory benefits remain available for those meeting specific age and service requirements.
