Polish senators propose new state holiday for Wedding to the Sea
Senators from the Civic Coalition (KO) have proposed establishing February 10 as the National Day of Poland's Wedding to the Sea. The proposal aims to commemorate the 1920 event where General Józef Haller threw a platinum ring into the Puck Bay to symbolize Poland's regained independence and access to maritime resources.
The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has expressed opposition to the initiative. Officials argue that the calendar is already crowded with 17 official state holidays and expressed concern that adding more could devalue the significance of existing commemorations. The ministry noted that not all state holidays result in a day off from work.
