Polish seniors receive ZUS energy allowance and free safety wristbands in Żary

From March 2026 the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will pay a monthly energy allowance of 336.16 zloty to eligible seniors, amounting to 4,033 zloty per year. The subsidy, which is not taxed and does not depend on earnings, is intended to help cover electricity and gas bills. Beneficiaries include combat veterans, persons who performed compulsory military service in mines or uranium works, widows and widowers, pensioners and other designated groups. The allowance can be inherited only by the closest relatives of the original recipient.

In the town of Żary, local authorities have launched a free‑of‑charge telecare program that provides safety wristbands to senior residents. The devices allow rapid assistance in emergencies and are part of broader efforts to improve the wellbeing of the elderly in the community.
