Polish seniors urged to prioritize sleep and exercise as research shifts age of oldness to 75
Recent research published in Nature identifies two simple measures that can protect cardiovascular health in people over 65: obtaining 7‑8 hours of quality sleep each night and engaging in regular physical activity. The studies discuss clonal hematopoiesis, a mutation‑driven inflammatory process that becomes common after age 70, and note that lifestyle factors such as sleep and exercise can mitigate its impact on atherosclerosis, heart attacks and strokes.
The World Health Organization recommends seniors perform 150‑300 minutes of moderate‑intensity or 75‑150 minutes of vigorous‑intensity activity weekly, suggesting activities like brisk walking, swimming or cycling. Separate analysis of aging perceptions finds the self‑identified “old” threshold in Poland has moved from 65 to roughly 75 years, with women on average 2.5 years later than men. Better health, regular movement, and active social engagement are cited as key drivers of this shift.
Together, the findings stress that lifestyle choices can both lower cardiovascular risk and delay the personal feeling of entering old age.
