Poland's automotive sector employment hits 9-year low

The Polish automotive industry is facing a significant downturn, with employment levels in the first half of 2026 dropping to 192,600. This represents a decrease of 7,100 jobs compared to the previous year, returning the sector to employment levels not seen since 2017. The decline is driven largely by reductions in the parts and accessories segment, while vehicle and engine production saw marginal growth.

Broader demographic shifts are also reshaping the Polish labor market. An aging population is creating a shrinking pool of mobile workers, with the number of people in the 18–44 age group declining significantly. This trend is compounded by ageism, as research indicates 36% of workers aged 45–59 have experienced age-related discrimination, often being overlooked for promotions.

To address these challenges, experts suggest that companies must move beyond simple automation and AI to solve labor shortages. Instead, a combination of strategic skill mapping, lifelong learning, and better integration of diverse age groups and migrant workers is required to maintain economic stability.
