Polish Supreme Court President Zbigniew Kapiński rejects claims of PiS politicians fleeing

Zbigniew Kapiński, newly appointed President of Poland’s Supreme Court, told Onet that he would never leave the country, saying, “I love my homeland and would never emigrate, even in the gravest danger.” He made the remarks while addressing speculation about PiS politicians Zbigniew Ziobro and Marcin Romanowski possibly fleeing Poland.

Kapiński also criticized Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek’s comments that the minister would decide the fate of Ziobro, and he described the Constitutional Tribunal as operating with an incomplete panel, calling its functioning “limited” and “partial.” He defended Polish judicial sovereignty, arguing that European Court rulings should not override Poland’s constitution, and warned against political interference in the courts.

The judge emphasized that Poland’s legal order must respect its own constitution and that he would not accept any situation that undermines national legal independence.
