Poland's RTV licence fee debt hits record 137,000 zł

In early 2026 the Polish Ministry of Finance reported that the tax office recovered a record 137,000 zł from a single debtor for unpaid RTV licence fees in the West Pomeranian voivodeship. Similar large recoveries were recorded in other regions – 35,000 zł in Łódź, 33,000 zł in Kuyavian‑Pomeranian, 32,000 zł in Lower Silesia, and 29,000 zł in Mazovia – most of which involve businesses that own multiple television or radio receivers.

The enforcement process starts with a notice sent by Poczta Polska. If the payer does not respond, the creditor can obtain an enforceable title, allowing the tax office to seize funds from bank accounts, salaries, pensions or tax refunds. Penalties for continued non‑payment rise to 1,035 zł for television and 324 zł for radio. From 1 January 2027 the monthly licence fee will increase to 10.80 zł for radio and 34.50 zł for television (or combined devices). Officials warn that ignoring the obligations can lead to substantially higher costs than regular payments.
