Polish teachers demand significant wage increases
Polish teachers are demanding significant wage increases, arguing that current pay levels remain too close to the national minimum wage rather than the average salary. The Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) is seeking a 15 percent raise in 2027, contrasting with the 3 percent increase currently outlined in the 2027 budget draft. The union is also pushing for teacher salaries to be linked to average household earnings.
Education Minister Barbara Nowacka has stated that the government coalition is committed to systemic and regular salary growth. She noted that teacher wages have increased by over 40 percent since she took office, but acknowledged that further improvements are necessary. Nowacka described the citizen-led initiative regarding pay as a “commitment of our entire coalition.”
Separately, teachers are receiving annual vacation benefits. For those employed full-time throughout the school year, the gross amount is 2,943.23 PLN, resulting in approximately 2,590 PLN net after taxes. These payments are distributed based on employment duration and do not depend on professional rank or social status.
