Polish teachers' union to protest in Warsaw on Aug. 31 over pay
The Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) announced a protest action, with the first demonstration scheduled for 31 August in front of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery in Warsaw. Union president Sławomir Broniarz said the march aims to remind Prime Minister Donald Tusk of his promises to link teachers’ salaries to the average wage and to press for the “decent pay and high prestige” bill that remains stalled in parliament.
The union’s decision follows recent meetings with the Ministry of Education and with coalition lawmakers that produced no concrete commitments. Broniarz warned that the scale and tone of future actions will depend on the government’s response, and that more radical steps could follow if negotiations do not progress.
