Polish teenager Maja Chwalińska reaches Roland Garros final

Poland’s 24‑year‑old Maja Chwalińska, ranked No. 114, advanced from the qualifying rounds to the final of the 2026 French Open. She defeated Qinwen Zheng, Elise Mertens, Maria Sakkari, Diane Parry and Anna Kalinskaya before overcoming Russia’s Diana Sznajder 7‑4, 6‑? in the semifinals to earn a place in the championship match against Mirra Andreeva.

The semifinal was preceded by remarks from Russia’s sports minister Michail Degiatiarov, who voiced support for the Russian participants.
