Maja Chwalińska faces Wimbledon injury, eyes comeback and rising Instagram fame

Polish tennis player Maja Chwalińska suffered a right ankle sprain in the first round of Wimbledon and retired after a 6‑2, 5‑7, 2‑6 loss to Mananchaya Sawangkaew. Former player and Polsat Sport expert Paula Kania described the exit as “the worst possible scenario” for the French Open finalist.

Following the injury, Chwalińska announced on Instagram that she has begun light rehabilitation and has returned to the gym, signalling a gradual return to full training. Her management is considering entries for the upcoming WTA 250 events in Hamburg and possibly the WTA 1000 in Toronto, while her participation in the WTA 250 in Jassy has been ruled out.

The French Open success has also driven a surge in Chwalińska’s public profile: her Instagram account gained over 500,000 new followers in June, making it the fastest‑growing Polish account that month, and attracted attention from luxury brand Mulberry.

Meanwhile, fellow Polish star Iga Świątek slipped to 12th place in the WTA Race with 1,954 points after an early Wimbledon exit, putting her at risk of missing the season‑ending WTA Finals. Newcomer Linda Noskova moved into the top‑10, while other top players such as Karolina Muchova and Aryna Sabalenka continue to contend for major titles.

These developments highlight both the physical challenges faced by Poland’s leading women’s‑tennis players and their growing off‑court visibility.
