WTA players compete in Chennai Open amid cyclone warnings

Several Polish tennis players are competing in the WTA 250 Chennai Open in India. Weronika Falkowska secured a significant victory in the first round, defeating Czech player Linda Fruhvirtova with a score of 7:6, 6:4. This win marks Falkowska's first appearance in a WTA main draw since 2022 and could aid her ranking efforts for the 2027 Australian Open.

Other Polish representatives include Magda Linette, who is scheduled to face Aliona Falei, and Katarzyna Kawa, who faces Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi. The tournament schedule faces potential disruption due to tropical cyclone Murasu, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the Chennai region.

In separate news, Martyna Kubka won her opening match in the WTA 125 tournament in Luanda, Angola, defeating Darja Suvirdjonkova 6:3 in the first set.
