Polish theatre production to feature AI-driven sex robot

The upcoming theatrical production ‘Deus sex machina’, created by Agnieszka Jakimiak and Mateusz Atman, features Emma, an AI-driven sex robot from China, as a central performer. Scheduled for its world premiere on September 11 at the Duża Scena, the 150-minute play marks the first time such technology has been integrated into a Polish theatrical production.

The performance explores the evolving relationship between humans and technology, specifically examining whether machines can fulfill emotional needs or satisfy the human desire for intimacy. Emma is not merely a prop but an active participant capable of dialogue and reacting to environmental stimuli through her algorithms. The production involves nine actors who must interact with the programmable machine as part of a complex narrative.

The play is structured in two parts. The first segment follows a rural healer seeking solace in a relationship with the robot following a painful breakup, while the second part incorporates a chorus to further explore these digital and human intersections.
