A 33-year-old Polish tourist is in stable condition in the intensive care unit of Agios Nikolaos Hospital after being found unconscious in the sea near Ierapetra, Crete.

The incident reportedly began after the man proposed marriage to his partner at a five-star hotel, an offer she declined. Following the rejection, the man allegedly caused significant damage to his hotel room before leaving the premises.

Witnesses at a nearby tavern spotted the man floating unconscious in the water near Agios Andreas beach around midnight on Tuesday, September 8. Emergency responders and lifesavers arrived quickly, entering the water to retrieve him. After successfully restoring his heart function, he was transported to Ierapetra Hospital, where he was intubated, and subsequently transferred to the ICU in Agios Nikolaos. The Ierapetra Port Authority is investigating the circumstances of the event.
