Polish towns slash electricity bills through renewable projects and dynamic tariffs

Local governments in Poland are turning renewable energy into measurable savings. In Lądek‑Zdrój, the municipal energy cooperative has lowered electricity costs for public buildings, streets and schools. Potęgowo, a leading example of the transformation, combines wind farms and a modern biogas plant to provide the cheapest heating to nearly a thousand families and generates over 7 million zł a year for the municipal budget. The National Open Data Centre (KCDO) supplies spatial data tools that simplify site selection for these projects, removing technical barriers for municipalities.

For households, switching to multi‑zone or dynamic electricity tariffs can reduce annual bills by up to 500 zł. According to Gazeta Prawna, prices can fluctuate hourly, dropping to almost zero when wind or solar output is high. Tauron data show that more than 40 000 customers have already changed tariffs since early 2026, a growth double that of the previous year. Properly timed use of appliances during cheaper off‑peak hours can lower costs by about 20 %, offering substantial relief to Polish families facing rising energy prices.
