Polish towns celebrate World Bee Day with ecology initiatives

In observance of World Bee Day on August 8, several Polish towns held events to highlight the ecological importance of pollinators. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately 75% of the world's food crops rely at least partially on animal pollination.

In Świdnik, the city showcased a unique educational project titled "From a Washing Machine to a Hive." This initiative, a collaboration between the City of Świdnik, the Odzyskaj Środowisko Foundation, Elektryczne Śmieci, and AURAEKO, utilizes recycled electronic waste to construct beehives. The project promotes a circular economy by demonstrating how discarded electrical appliances can be repurposed for nature conservation.

In Pabianice, celebrations took place at the Old Market Square, featuring educational activities such as building bee houses and interactive games about pollinators. The event allowed residents to purchase honey and pollen, learn about bee products through cosmetic making workshops, and consult with the Łódź Voivodeship Beekeepers Association. Local children were able to observe live bees under professional supervision.
