Polish Trade Inspection finds safety defects in water pumps

The Polish Trade Inspection conducted market controls on 15 models of water pumps for clean and dirty water between March and May 2026. The inspections, carried out by regional inspectorates in cities including Białystok, Bydgoszcz, Lublin, Olsztyn, Poznań, and Wrocław, covered retail stores, large-format shops, and wholesalers.

Findings revealed significant formal irregularities in 8 of the 15 models. These included incomplete safety information, incorrect operating instructions, improper declarations of conformity, and missing manufacturer data or CE markings. In seven instances, consumers lacked sufficient information regarding the risks associated with using the devices.

Laboratory testing identified serious construction defects in 5 models. Specifically, three pumps had power cords that were too short for safe use, and two featured wires with insufficient cross-sections, which poses a fire hazard.

Administrative proceedings will be initiated for six cases through the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK). Manufacturers face potential fines of up to 100,000 PLN for construction defects, 20,000 PLN for lack of CE marking, and 10,000 PLN for other formal non-compliance.
