Polish farmers and allied workers plan nationwide protest on May 20

The Polish farmers’ union NSZZ Solidarność Rolników Indywidualnych announced a massive demonstration in Warsaw on 20 May, urging participants from agriculture, industry, transport and other sectors to join. Organisers warned of a deepening crisis in farms caused by weather extremes, tightening EU “Green Deal” rules and falling grain and vegetable prices, and called for road blockades and a two‑hour rail strike to “make the whole of Poland stand”.

Key speakers highlighted the hardships: “We must stand together and fight for Poland,” said union chairman Tomasz Obszański, while he added that “farmers really have nowhere to turn.” Deputy speaker Tomasz Ognisty warned that imports from Germany have flooded the market, forcing producers to dump their crops. The protest also backs a presidential‑proposed referendum on climate policy and opposition to the Green Deal. Organisers said the Warsaw rally will be the kickoff for wider local actions across the country.

The demonstration reflects growing discontent with the government’s economic and environmental policies and could pressure policymakers ahead of upcoming legislative debates.
