Polish TV series Ranczo returns after 10‑year hiatus

The long‑running Polish television drama "Ranczo" is set to resume after a ten‑year break. The original series aired from 2006 to 2016 and was one of TVP’s most popular programmes. Production has begun on the eleventh season, titled "Ranczo. Zemsta wiedźm", which will consist of six episodes and is scheduled to air on Telewizja Polska in the autumn.

Most of the original cast is returning – including Cezary Żak, Artur Barciś, Ilona Ostrowska, Katarzyna Żak, Violetta Arlak, Marta Lipińska and Grażyna Zielińska – while new actors such as Maciej Marcin Tomaszewski, Karolina Ludwiniak and Andrzej Seweryn join the lineup. The casting of veteran actor Daniel Olbrychski sparked controversy; some fans feared he would replace the late Paweł Królikowski’s character Kus. The show's creators clarified that Olbrychski will play a brand‑new role, Ignacy Japycz, a cousin of the series’ existing Japycz family, and that no deceased actors will be recast.

Director Wojciech Adamczyk addressed the backlash in a social‑media post, promising that the production would honor the memory of actors who have passed away. Filming is expected to continue until 20 August, after which the new episodes will depict the lives of the residents of the fictional village Wilkowyje a decade later, with grown‑up children and updated storylines.
